Email questions about Sherlock
4-05-05
My 18 year old, cat, Sherlock, had Squamous cell carcinoma in his lower jaw.
He lived 8 months and one day from the date I found the tumor on August 4th,
2004. I treated him with vitamin and herbal therapy.
I am not a professional. I’ve read about supplements then tried them. His story
is for information purposes only and is not intended to be veterinary advice.
Although this therapy helped Sherlock, I cannot guaranty how effective it will
be for your pet. I would like to offer a little hope to those of you who also
have a cat with SCC. I can’t offer a cure, but perhaps an extension of you pet’s
time left with you. If you do try any of the supplements I used for Sherlock,
only introduce one new item at a time. This way you will know if your cat has a
bad reaction, so you will know which supplements to avoid. I have been unable to
locate an RDA chart for cats so I have no idea what the exact dose should be. I
added a few sprinkles of each supplement to an entire can of cat food. I
separated the food from the cat food juice. I mixed the oils, herbs and vitamins
in the juice to disguise the meds. It had to taste and smell good for Sherlock
to eat it. After all the ingredients were mixed into the juice I blended it into
the cat food. I put about three or more squirts of colloidal silver in the water
dish one or more times a day. Whenever I changed the water I added colloidal
silver. Just a note, do not give your cat colloidal silver while giving the cat
pharmaceutical antibiotics. I’m not sure why, I just remember reading about it
but I can’t find the article. I think it’s to prevent too quick of an overkill
of the infection which can cause flu like symptoms. It’s called the herxheimer
effect, it’s caused because pathogens are killed quicker than the body can
eliminate them.
Saving Sherlock
An awakening adventure of choices
Early October 2004
Sherlock is a beautiful, loving gray and white, long haired, geriatric cat. I’ve
had him since college. He’s approximately 18 years old. Fifty or so days ago our
vet found a suspicious tumor growing in his jaw during a dental cleaning. On
Wednesday 8-4 I had found a small lump on his left cheek by the lower jaw. The
next afternoon I tried to take him to the vet. When I got there the place was
empty, they had closed at noon. I asked my husband to take him to the vet the
next day. He forgot and it was the following Tuesday 8-10 before he made it to
the vet. Initially the vet just gave him an antibiotic shot and oral antibiotic
drops for home with a scheduled cleaning for Friday. We assumed it was probably
just an infected tooth. Even though in hindsight we should have known something
more was wrong. His hair was matted in spots and he drooled occasionally and
slept more often. But as Sherlock had gotten older this was a common occurrence
a couple times a year. We called his illness yuck mouth and we would take him in
for a cleaning and it would go away for a few months. He also usually got two or
more cortisone shots a year for scabby patches on his body. The first time he
had the itchy patches he lost a lot of his hair and looked like something from
the movie pet cemetery. A simple shot or two from the vet cleared it up and we
knew what to do if it happened again.
Sherlock just seemed to get yucky ailments as he got older; it was just an
accepted part of his life. He’s an old man. We’ve always just taken him to the
vet and the vet would fix his problems. This time was different. We took him in
on Friday 8-13 for his cleaning. When my husband called that evening to see if
he was ready to come home, the vet informed him that he had found a tumor and
did a biopsy. He said it looked like cancer, but could be just an infection or
nothing major. I looked up information on the internet and became convinced that
Sherlock had squamous cell carcinoma. The hair matting and drooling are classic
signs. A few days later on 8-18 the diagnosis was in. Sherlock has SCC, squamous
cell carcinoma.
My vet has given up and accepted defeat. He believes there is nothing to do but
let him die. That as long as I put him to sleep before his suffering becomes too
unbearable for him, then, I have done my best by him. I can’t accept that. The
vet has said this is a very rapid and horrible death and there is nothing I can
do to stop it. The rapid part I saw first hand with how quick the tumor was
growing larger on Sherlock’s cheek. He said this is such a horrible disease that
we will put him to sleep before the cancer kills him.
This is where the story gets interesting because this time it’s up to me to fix
his problems because modern medicine has nothing to offer my poor beloved, dying
kitty. Although I love him dearly and have the best of intentions, I am not a
vet. I have a degree in accounting and one in management and administration but
nothing in the sciences. Why does his life have to be in my hands? What if I
fail him? Or even worse, what if I accidentally kill him? I am not qualified to
play God. I don’t believe in these things, or at least I didn’t use to.
When the vet said it was hopeless, I didn’t want to believe him. I know I can’t
save him, but I want Sherlock’s final days or months to be pleasant ones. I had
been reading about nutrition and the benefits of supplements in improving my own
health before Sherlock got sick. I’d been having some luck with supplements. I
was able to wean myself off Nexium and antacids just by taking L-Glutamine and
Biotin once a day. With $5 a month in supplements my stomach feels better than
it ever did on a $35 co-pay prescription. I am fighting my fatigue and brain
fuzz with fish oil, flax oil and Evening of Primrose Oil (EPO) and am feeling
more energetic.
I refuse to believe that feeling this tired is just a normal part of aging.
Since my body doesn’t do well with pharmaceuticals, I had to find a natural
solution. I am just a beginner in natural healing. I liked how the flax, EPO and
Fish oil made me feel better, so I starting giving the flax and Fish oil to
Sherlock. Within a few days the tumor had quit growing and started shrinking. It
didn’t go completely away but it didn’t get any bigger.
I slowed down his cancer simply by accident. I wanted him to feel better and he
does. The following is his treatment information.
8-7-04 added to his routine of canned and dry food ½ can of tuna and plain
yogurt once a day.
8-9-04 added Fish oil, flaxseed oil and ground flaxseeds to his tuna and plain
yogurt.
8-10-04 switched one canned feeding with Hills A/D with flax & Fish oil s and
ground flax seeds added.
8-11-04 same but quit putting flaxseeds in food.
8-12-04 tried to feed him cottage cheese with the flax and Fish oils. He didn’t
like it very much. His tumor is feeling smaller today.
8-13-04 added evening of primrose oil to the above. Tumor still feels smaller.
8-14-04 same but no EPO
8-15-04 same
8-16-04 same tumor feels smaller
8-17-04 instead of tuna I added his oils to mackerel and sardines. He seemed to
like it. We treated him for ear mites since he kept digging at his ears. (Very,
very stupid thing to do) The tumor is feeling smaller.
8-18-04 the tumor has grown. I put a couple drops of flax oil in his ears to
help counter-act the pesticides from the ear mite meds. Gave flax oil and EPO in
milk by eyedropper to make sure he drank it. (At that time I was reading about
Johanna Budding’s theories and Flax was king and the only thing I knew to have
‘healing powers’.) Washed sardines & added the oils and milk. He doesn’t seem
hungry and slept most of the day.
8-25-04 9 Lives is the only cat food he will eat with the oils added. Added EPO,
Fish oil and Milk Thistle to his food. The tumor is pea sized. Made a meow hiss
kind of action today. He will meow & then hiss like something is bothering him.
Like he was fighting the air. I noticed him doing this a couple times.
8-26-04 EPO, Fish oil and Milk Thistle in his food. AM the tumor felt pea sized.
PM tumor is more grape sized. Seems happy, being active. Saw one meow-hiss
episode.
8-27-04 AM feeding 9 Lives, Fish oil, EPO, and a small amount of flax oil, PM
feeding 9 Lives, Fish oil , EPO & CO Enzyme Q10
8-31-04 doubled the Co Enzyme Q10 to 100mg
9-2-04 same but put coconut oil on his ears and mouth, he started coughing and
sneezing shortly afterwards.
9-3-04 added coconut oil to his food. The tumor feels smaller.
9-4-04 His tumor is feeling smaller today. Took Sherlock to the Vet, he was
surprised how well Sherlock is doing. He said he couldn’t tell if the cancer was
getting any better but it wasn’t getting any worse. He was interested in the
treatment I was giving him.
9-5-04 The tumor feels bigger today.
9-6-04 Added Milk Thistle and coconut oil to his food.
9-7-04 Added Milk Thistle, double EPO (2softgels), flax, Fish oil , CO Q10 and
coconut oil to two of his meals. Sherlock started coughing and sneezing after
eating the supper meal. I took away the rest of the plate. I will discontinue
the coconut oil. For his bedtime feeding I gave him Iams with nothing added. He
ate the Iams even though there was no oil in it. Lately he prefers to have the
oils in his food. He’s been a picky eater lately.

tonight.
9-11-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle and CO Q10.
PM feeding added EPO, 2 Fish oil softgels and CO Q10.
BT feeding I added Fish oil . The lump feels about the same and he’s acting
fine, but he doesn’t want to eat. He ate the BT feeding.
9-12-04 Happy birthday to me, Sherlock is still alive and his tumor feels
smaller. AM feeding added EPO, 2 Fish oil softgels and CO Q10.

9-20-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil and CO Q10.
PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil and CO Q10. BT feeding added EPO to tuna.
He ate some of it. Doesn’t seem interested in food today. I cleaned his mouth
and put coconut oil on it. He had a meow-hiss episode today. His mouth must be
hurting.
9-21-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil and CO Q10.
PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil and CO Q10. BT feeding added coconut oil.
He seems more willing to eat today. I noticed a very small amount of blood on
his mouth today.
9-22-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , CO Q10 and 1 TBS parsley water.
PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil and CO Q10. BT feeding added flax oil, Milk
Thistle and Ginger. Maybe the Ginger will help his stomach feel more like
eating. Also it should help him if he’s achy. I’ve been reading Hulda Clark’s
theories. She believes that cancer is caused by parasites and environmental
contaminates. If I can kill the parasites and cleanse his body he can recover
from this. The parsley water is to keep his kidneys flowing well so dead
parasite refuse is eliminated promptly. It’s the preliminary thing to do the
week before starting the parasite killing program. The side of his face feels
flatter. Sherlock still doesn’t want to eat. He’s feeling lighter today.
9-23-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10 and a TBS of
parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle and CO Q10.

parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle and CO Q10.
His face is dry. He’s eating.
9-25-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10 and a TBS of
parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle and CO Q10.
BT feeding was Healthy Essentials cat milk.
9-26-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10 and a TBS of
parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle and CO Q10.
BT feeding was Healthy Essentials (HE) cat milk. Sherlock was sitting in the
hallway with Rogue our 1 ½ year female kitty tonight. He usually stays on the
floor by the foot of our bed or he hides under it.
9-27-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil and CO Q10. PM feeding added flax,
EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle and CO Q10. BT feeding added flax oil, Milk Thistle
and CO Q10. I added 2drops Vit E, 1/8 tsp Vit C, Milk Thistle and Ginger to his
HE milk. He snubbed it. He’s been coughing some today. I noticed him using the
bathroom and he seems to be straining to pee. He had a stone when he was about 7
so I know to keep an eye on him. He has some pus on the side of his mouth but
the tumor feels smaller.
9-28-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10 and a TBS of
parsley water. I gave him some HE milk in the morning with Vit E but he wouldn’t
drink it. He doesn’t seem interested in eating. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish
oil , Milk Thistle, Vit E and CO Q10. BT feeding added Milk Thistle, 2 soft gels
(100mg) of CO Q10 and Turmeric in his food. He was sitting in the hallway
tonight.
9-29-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
Turmeric and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk
Thistle, Vit E, Turmeric and CO Q10. He seems to be eating better today. He
almost acts like he likes the Turmeric. He has some pus on the side of his mouth
with a tinge of light pink and there is a slight odor. I washed his mouth
tonight. He’s sitting in the hallway and seems to be moving better today.
9-30-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
Turmeric and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk
Thistle, Vit E, Turmeric and 2 soft gels CO Q10. It doesn’t look like he ate
much today but he is alert and lovable.
10-1-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
Turmeric and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk
Thistle, Vit E, Turmeric, CO Q10, Blessed Thistle and digestive enzymes. I’ve
seen Blessed Thistle mentioned in multiple articles as having tumor shrinking
powers. I saw it at Grandview Pharmacy so I bought it. Grandview also had free
samples of digestive enzymes which I have also read several authors saying that
it’s good for cancer treatment. I’ve read that the digestive system (DS) plays
an important role in your health. Your DS is responsible for the absorption of
nutrients from the food you eat which determines how healthy you will be. It
involves many different chemical actions and reactions to be efficient. I hadn’t
bought any yet because I’ve been trying to determine which ones are the best for
Sherlock. I ordered some pills today for Sherlock from Wholistic Animal in
Australia. They have a really neat website full of lots of useful information,
WWW.Wholisticanimal.com. I ordered pills for urethral obstruction to help
Sherlock pee better. I also ordered an herbal cleanse and Vit C powder for him.
10-2-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
Turmeric, Blessed Thistle (BT), digestive enzymes (DE) and a TBS of parsley
water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Vit E, 2 soft gels CO Q10, Blessed
Thistle and digestive enzymes. He still has a small amount of pus on his mouth.
10-3-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
Turmeric, BT, DE, and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added flax,
Milk Thistle, Vit E, CO Q10, Blessed Thistle, digestive enzymes a TBS of parsley
water. He still has a small amount of pus on his mouth.
10-4-04 AM feeding added flax, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
Turmeric, BT, DE, and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added flax, EPO, Milk
Thistle, Vit E, CO Q10, Blessed Thistle, digestive enzymes and Barleans pet oil
blend. Sherlock seems to like the Barleans. I added parsley water to his
drinking water.
10-5-04 AM feeding added Barleans, EPO, Fish oil , Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E,
BT, DE, and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added Barleans, EPO, Fish oil ,
Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E, BT, DE, and a TBS of parsley water. BT feeding
added Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) an antioxidant even stronger than CO Q10. He had
some eye discharge and dried slime on the side of his mouth. Other than not
wanting to eat he is acting fine and being lovable.
10-6-04 AM feeding added Barleans, Milk Thistle, CO Q10, Vit E, Turmeric and
ALA. I received his pills from Australia today. They sent me the Oral Tumor and
antibiotic for free with my order. PM feeding added Supa Supplement which has
digestive enzymes and all kinds of vitamins in it. I also added the Oral Tumor,
antibiotic, urethral clear and Vit C powder to his food.
10-7-04 AM feeding added Barleans, Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic,
urethral clear and a TBS of parsley water. PM feeding added Supa Supplement,
Oral Tumor, antibiotic, urethral clear, CO Q10 and hemp oil. I don’t think he
ate it.
10-8-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, and urethral
clear. Didn’t add anything to his PM feeding.
10-9-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, and urethral
clear. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, and urethral
clear.
10-10-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, and urethral
clear. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, and urethral
clear. BT feeding HE milk since he doesn’t want the oils mixed with the Aussie
pills and the Healthy Essentials milk is suppose to have the fatty acids in it.
He seems to be opening his mouth bigger today.
10-11-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, urethral
clear and the herbal cleanse pills. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral
Tumor, antibiotic, urethral clear and the herbal cleanse pills. BT feeding HE
milk with the Aussie pills added. I didn’t notice any pus today.
10-12-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, urethral
clear and the herbal cleanse pills. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral
Tumor, antibiotic, urethral clear, herbal cleanse pills, flax, EPO, Fish oil ,

10-20-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, urethral
clear and the herbal cleanse pills. PM feeding tried to make home made cat food
using liver cooked with gravel root, coconut oil, Vit C, fennel, slippery elm. I
added the Aussie pills before serving. I think the cats may have eaten some of
it. It really made the house stink. My 9 year old son begged me to never cook it
again. BT feeding added flax oil, EPO, Milk Thistle, Vit E and Blessed Thistle
to his food.
10-21-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, urethral

I received more pills from Australia today. PM feeding added Supa Supplement,
Oral Tumor, antibiotic, urethral clear, herbal cleanse pills and liver cleanse
pills. He has pus with a small amount of blood on his mouth today.
10-31-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal
cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. PM
feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse pills,
liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. The homeofungal
pills are more for Rogue since she has had a persistent rash on her belly that
our vet can’t do much for. He ruled out mange and mites. The cortisone shot
helped for a day and the spray I was suppose to spray on her she wanted nothing
to do with. Alternative medicine has helped Sherlock. Maybe it can help Rogue
too. I don’t have enough free time to try to cure Rogue right now. I saw the
homeofungal pills when I was shopping Wholistic Animal for meds for Sherlock.
The vet that makes the pills claims they won’t hurt pets that don’t need it, so
I decided to try it. I quit giving Sherlock the urethral clear because he seems
to be peeing better now. Now that he is eliminating better I can try to cleanse
him of his toxins. There’s pus on his mouth again tonight.
My adult daughter is visiting for the weekend. We were talking earlier and I
must have said something about Sherlock or vitamins because she rudely asked me
“Can’t you talk about anything else?” I was not only floored but crushed when
she said that. Other than my husband and an occasional sister, I don’t talk much
about what I am doing with Sherlock to other people. It’s not necessarily
socially acceptable. Other people don’t understand when I tell them there is
nothing modern medicine can do for Sherlock but there are options available in
natural medicine. And of course there are the snickers when someone finds out
that I’m trying to save him. I know they think I am just the poor crazy cat lady
who refuses to accept that her kitty is going to die. I am not in denial. I just
don’t think he has to die right now. No I can’t talk about anything else. I
don’t have the time to read about anything but him. If I am to find a cure for
him, I have to search for it. From what I have learned about cancer I have found
out that we already knew about the ‘cures’ several generations ago. The hard
part is separating the truth from the wishful thinking.
11-1-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, Vit C powder,
herbal cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, homeofungal pills,
and ALA. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, Vit C powder,
herbal cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, homeofungal pills,
EPO, Fish oil , CO Q10, Vit E and ALA. Sherlock snubbed it. Other feeding added
Colloidal Silver to his milk.
Colloidal Silver is supposed to be like the king of antibiotics. It’s supposed
to kill about anything that’s bad but be completely ‘safe’ if you buy a quality
product that has the tiniest of silver particles. I’ve read several articles
about it. It’s safe, reasonable priced, it won’t kill him but could possibly do
good things for him. Supposedly it will even help repair the damaged skin cells.
It sounds too good to be true, but it’s the best option I have at this time.
I relied on the Australia Meds to save him instead of making sure he got his
daily oils. Now he’s going downhill. He’s not looking too good today. He looked
better after he drank the milk with the Colloidal Silver.
11-2-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse
pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. PM feeding
added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse pills, liver
cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, homeofungal pills, EPO, and Fish oil . I put
Colloidal Silver in his evening HE milk. His lump seems bigger today and he’s
drooling more. He doesn’t want to eat solids.
I like to read and research and I enjoy a challenge, however I’m more accountant
than doctor. Am I really qualified to be responsible for Sherlock’s life? All
the good intentions in the world don’t really matter if the treatment kills him.
I am not a scientist. I can only read and research so much. What if I chose the
wrong treatment? What if I fail him and he dies? What if I can’t cure him? I’ve
always loved Sherlock but I haven’t spent that much time with him the past few
years. Since he has been sick I’ve made the time to play with him. I even let
him sleep on my pillow. The last few nights have been a little rough because of
the slight smell emitting from his mouth. It’s been worse before and it just
means it’s time to rethink his meds. It doesn’t mean he’s dying. He could die
but he doesn’t have to, not yet. Not if he will cooperate with me and eat the
food with the supplements. I just need time to read it through. I really love
Sherlock; I’m not ready to let him go yet. Overall with all of the vitamins and
herbs he’s looking better than he has in years. Remember, he’s an 18 year old
cat. Even his faded gray hair is starting to grow in darker. He looks younger.
I’m not just prolonging the inevitable he really seems better. He’s softer and
looks more alert and fairly well groomed.
Up until a few months ago, I never believed cancer could be cured. I just
believed that you can at least soften the side affects of the disease and the
treatments. Cancer killed my dad, my uncle, and my husband’s mother. I had
always accepted death as a fact of life of cancer.
11-3-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse
pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. Also gave
him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral
Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant,
homeofungal pills and Barleans. Also gave him HE milk with Colloidal Silver
added. I doubled his Aussie pills today. He seems to be eating better.
11-4-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse
pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. Also gave
him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral
Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant,
homeofungal pills. Also gave him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. I put
Colloidal Silver in his ears tonight. Maybe it will help with the itching. He’s
eating better today.
11-5-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse
pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. Also gave
him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral
Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant,
homeofungal pills. Also gave him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. I put
Colloidal Silver in his ears again tonight. I gave him more HE milk with
Colloidal Silver added before bed. He’s eating better and his lump feels
smaller.
11-6-04 AM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse
pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant, and homeofungal pills. Also gave
him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. PM feeding added Supa Supplement, Oral
Tumor, antibiotic, herbal cleanse pills, liver cleanse pills, anemia stimulant,
homeofungal pills. Also gave him HE milk with Colloidal Silver added. His lump
seems bigger today. He’s not looking real good and he doesn’t want to eat much.
11-7-04 AM feeding added flax oil, EPO, and 2 Fish oil softgels to food and
Colloidal Silver to HE milk. PM feeding added flax oil, EPO, and 2 Fish oil
softgels and Vit E to food and Colloidal Silver to HE milk. BT feeding Colloidal
Silver added to milk. There is a lot of pus on his mouth and a strong smell
coming from it. I’m trying to reintroduce the oils. He just wouldn’t eat the
oils and the Aussie pills together. I knew I was supposed to continue the oils
with the pills but Sherlock wouldn’t cooperate. That’s why I gave him the
healthy essentials milk, so at least he would get his flax that way. I figured
of the combinations, he would have better luck with something created by a
qualified vet instead of something I came up with. However he’s in worse shape
now than he was so it’s time to rethink his treatment plan.
11-8-04 AM feeding added flax oil, EPO, and 2 Fish oil soft gels to food and
Colloidal Silver to HE milk. PM feeding added flax oil, EPO, and 2 Fish oil soft
gels and Vit E to food and Colloidal Silver to HE milk. He has smaller amounts
of pus today.
11-9-04 AM feeding added flax oil, EPO, and 2 Fish oil soft gels to food and
Colloidal Silver to HE milk. PM feeding added flax oil, EPO, and Fish oil to his
food and Colloidal Silver to HE milk. His tumor feels smaller today and there
isn’t as much pus.
11-10-04 thru 12-27-04
I quit logging Sherlock’s progress because I was suffering from information
overload. I had read Hulda Clark’s a Cure for All Cancers and a Cure for all
Advanced Cancers and I was just overwhelmed. I was tired about reading how all
our food and grooming products and everything we come into contact with is
unsafe. I no longer use hand lotions or anything with the word prop in it,
because these are bad things for Sherlock to be exposed to. I made my husband
turn our soft water off. I had to step back and reevaluate the situation. I
wanted more proof of these things before I became a fanatic. I think I even
convinced myself that my dearest Sherlock was indeed going to die and my notes
would be of no importance or interest to anyone else.
Being a natural healer is a very lonely thing to be without a support group to
vent to. Right before Thanksgiving I switched the dry cat food to Innova adult
Cat Food. From what I have read, cats are carnivores, they should not be fed
corn based cat food. They also shouldn’t be fed foods with dyes and additives.
The cats took right to it and really seem to like it. It’s pricey but I think
it’s worth it. I pay $13.95 for 6.6#’s, I buy it at Natures Nook our local
health food store. I finally convinced my husband that our two fox terrier
puppies needed a better quality puppy food as well. We switched them a couple
weeks later. It seems to have helped calm them down some. Their website is
www.nuturapet.com.
I’m not completely sure what I fed him during this entire time but as of
12-21-04 the following were his meds.
Essential fatty acids / Omega 3’s & 6’s
Fish oil (liquid cod liver oil from Natures Nook)
Organic Flax oil (liquid from Wal Mart)
Hemp oil extra virgin (liquid from IHerb.com)
All of the above are mixed into a can of cat food 3x a day. Approximately a
teaspoon or more per feeding of each oil.
Vitamins/ supplements
Alpha-Lipoic Acid / ALA 200 mg capsule ( IHerb.com)
Co Enzyme Q10 60mg capsule (Natures Nook)
Vitamin C powder 5000 mg (Natures Nook)
*Arginine 1000 mg & Ornithine 500 mg capsules ( IHerb.com)
Herbs
Blessed Thistle 325 mg capsule (Grandview Pharmacy)
Milk Thistle 175 mg capsule (Wal Mart)
Ginger capsule (Wal Mart)
Clove freshly ground
All of the above Vitamins and Herbs are mixed into a can of cat food 3x a day
with the exception of the Arginine & Ornithine which is only mixed in the food
at bedtime. All of the above are administered by opening the capsules and
putting the contents in Tupperware personal salt & pepper shakers and sprinkling
a few shakes of each on the canned cat food 3X a day.
Other
Colloidal Silver 100ppm (WWW.Earthbornproducts.com)
Black Walnut Hull mixture (Made from b oiling Green Black Walnuts)
The above are put in the water dishes daily as well as added to the canned cat
food 3X a day.
He was taking the following Aussie meds,
Supa Supplement, anemia stimulant, homeofungal pills, liver cleanse and natural
antibiotic.
All of the above are from WWW.Wholisticanimal.com out of Australia. The first 3
items are given 2X to 3X a day mixed in with the canned cat food with the other
meds. The other two are given as needed.
Sherlock is getting all of the above as noted. Any additions or subtractions to
his supplements I have tried to note when it happened.
December 28th, 2004
Sherlock is still alive. He is eating well and even feels heavier. He’s sleeping
no more than usual and a little less than I would like sometimes. This morning
he woke me up at 4:00am wanting me to love on him. He usually doesn’t start
trying to wake me up until after the first alarm goes off at 5:30 am. He knows
if he can wake me before the final alarm at 6:00 that I will love on him until
time to get out of bed.
I took him to the vet on the 21st & instead of being amazed he was still alive
and doing so well, the vet focused on his inevitable death. He said the cancer
is in his lymph node. He kept telling me there was nothing I can do to save him.
Although he did ask if he could keep the list of meds and other information I
brought for him. He asked me if I would call him when Sherlock got real bad so
he would know how long he lasted. Sweet, my vet of 16+ years really doesn’t care
about my cat. He thinks there is nothing that can help Sherlock, so he acts like
he doesn’t want to talk about it. But this is a typical response when people
find out I’m experimenting with vitamins, herbs and oils with my cat to try to
keep him alive. He has lived 146 days since I found the lump. That’s 101 days
more than the vet thought he would live. The vet gave him approximately (to
cover his butt) 45 days to live. As fast as the tumor was growing, he probably
only had a couple weeks and maybe less when quality of life is figured into the
equation. I believe in euthanasia and have had it done a few times for beloved
pets to relive their suffering. I am hoping with Sherlock he will die in his
sleep and I will never have to make this decision for him.
A couple days ago I noticed a white film covering the inside of Sherlock’s mouth
when I was cleaning his face. I squirted Colloidal Silver in his mouth and the
next day the white was gone and so was the smell. Apparently the Colloidal
Silver really might have some healing powers. I started giving Sherlock CO Q10
again on 12-21-04. It’s a powerful antioxidant that is supposed to have tumor
reducing abilities. At least in humans in doses over 90mg. You may want to
introduce this slowly. I have noticed and so has my daughter that if we take
over 50 mg it makes us jumpy. However my husband can take the 100mg softgels
with no problems.
12-29-04 Started giving Sherlock B-Complex sublingual liquid in his PM feeding.
I’ve been reading again, and I take a B-Complex and find it beneficial to me so
now it’s Sherlock’s turn.
1-1-05 Happy New year, sweet Sherlock is still hanging in there. Today when I
cleaned his face two little holes appeared on his cheek. They bled a little then
stopped. The hair in the tumor site of his left lower jaw is starting to fall
out and scab over. I hope the cancer doesn’t eat through his face.
1-6-05 He has a small amount of bleeding today. He got my pillow yucky.
1-7-05 Sill has a small amount of bleeding. Washed his face with the Aussie
antibiotic dissolved in the water.
1-15-05 I added hemp protein to his PM & BT feedings. It came in the mail with
the hemp oil I ordered from www.globalhempstore.com. When I went to their
website to order the oil I read about the hemp protein. It is supposed to be a
complete protein because it contains all the essential amino acids, which are
the building blocks of protein. It is supposed to be easily digestible. It has
both omega 6 and omega 3 essential fatty acids and is supposed to be a high
quality protein. He seemed to adjust well to the hemp oil so I decided to try
the hemp protein. I’ve read that cancer patients need an abundance of protein to
be able to build and repair tissue and maintain a healthy immune system. He
needs adequate protein to repair and heal his face as well as pump up his immune
system so his body can fight the cancer invasion. Only Sherlock can save
himself, his body has to do it. I really believe that his will to live, will is
the only thing than can truly save him.
1-19-05 I added Folic Acid to his PM & BT feedings. I read an article about
Folic Acid being beneficial to preventing high blood pressure. I have high blood
pressure which lately seems to raise daily. I thought it sounded promising to
also help to lower blood pressure. I looked it up in The Doctor’s Complete Guide
to Vitamins and Minerals and was impressed with its additional qualities. It
helps to strengthen the immune system which is something that is usually
compromised in cancer patients. It has a low toxicity rate which I look for
since I have no idea what the RDA is for any of the supplements I am giving
Sherlock. I found out that if you supplement with B complex vitamins, you should
also supplement with Folic Acid so your body can absorb the B vitamins. Sherlock
and our family all supplement with a B complex vitamin. So Folic Acid has been
added to Sherlock’s and our vitamin routines now. Folic Acid is essential in
helping to prevent anemia which is a risk for all cancer patients. My most
beloved cat of all time, Pan died of anemia caused by a parasitic infection
about six years ago. My sister with cancer has battled anemia a few times.
Anything that can help prevent it is worth giving a try.
1-20-05 Sherlock seems to be adjusting fine to the Folic Acid. No weird side
affects have been noticed.
1-22-05 I added Biotin to his food today. I’ve been taking it for months and I
have read several articles that state most cancer patients are deficient in
Biotin. I looked it up and decided to give it to Sherlock too. It is suppose to
be safe and nontoxic. There are nine enzyme functions that require Biotin to
work properly. It’s needed for proper energy metabolism and growth. It’s cheap,
I already have it, why not try it?
Raw eggs whites will bind the Biotin so that your body can’t absorb it, so if
your pet eats raw egg whites they will need additional Biotin.
Sherlock was hanging out downstairs again. He must be feeling pretty good if
he’s going to risk contact with the puppies by being downstairs. I washed his
face with hemp oil and Colloidal Silver added to the water.
1-24-05 I added Evening of Primrose Oil, EPO to his meals today. I’ve been
taking EPO for several months and Sherlock did before the Aussie pills. I’m
hoping it will help shrink the tumor. It is suppose to help regulate every
important body function. It contains gamma linolenic acid, GLA, which is suppose
to have anti-inflammatory properties.
1-25-05 I added beta carotene to his food today. I read today that it can help
heal precancerous lesions in patients with oral cancer. It is supposed to
neutralize the free radicals. He has a small amount of blood on his mouth today.
He got it on the carpet, at the foot of the bed, where he likes to hide
sometimes when he doesn’t want to be bothered. The tumor feels smaller but that
may be wishful thinking.
1-26-05 I gave him Colloidal Silver drops by mouth today since he still has
blood on his face. He hung out downstairs today. I’m only giving him the beta
carotene once a day. I know it’s good for him, I just wish I knew how much to
give him.
1-27-05 I started giving him L-Glutamine today just to help out with his
digestion. It’s an amino acid, I’m hoping it will help him to absorb more of the
vitamins I’m giving him. L-Glutamine rescued me from GERD, I think highly of it.
On a more technical note, it’s a building block of protein. It’s the most highly
concentrated amino acid in muscle. It is supposes to correct leaky gut, a
condition that happens when digestive particles pass into the blood stream
instead of being digested in the stomach and intestines. It can cause allergies
and all kinds of illnesses if not treated.
1-31-05 for some reason I think cats aren’t supposed to get a lot of magnesium
but I have also read where it’s good for them when they’re sick. I don’t have
enough information so I proceed cautiously. I added chelated calcium, magnesium
and zinc to one meal.
2-1-05 The sound of his purr changed. It sounds more respiratory.
2-2-05 Tonight I gave him Colloidal Silver drops in his mouth. I added the
Aussie antibiotic to his once a day Supa and anemia stimulant pills. I’m a
little concerned with infection.
2-3-05 Added the chelated, calcium, magnesium and zinc to one meal only. Still
adding the Aussie antibiotic to one meal a day. His purring still sounds
strange, but it doesn’t sound as raspy tonight.
2-4-05 He came down stairs in the morning then stayed upstairs most of the
afternoon. He came down stairs in the evening.
I was in the room when he used the litter box. He had a strong urine flow that
was long lasting, with a little hesitation at the end. He didn’t seem to be
straining so that problem seems to be fixed. Hopefully, the long flow means he
didn’t baptize any furniture or anything while he was downstairs. This has never
been a problem with him, but since he’s sick I worry that he might do it so he
doesn’t have to climb the stairs.
2-5-05 Sherlock is still alive. He has a good appetite, his coat looks and feels
good and his eyes are bright. He sits on the stairs most days and will come
downstairs to find me sometimes. The puppies live downstairs so he doesn’t go
beyond the stairs usually. If he’s sitting on the stairs I know he’s feeling
pretty good. If he’s not feeling well he stays upstairs on the floor at the foot
of the bed. Unfortunately his favorite hiding spot is also the draftiest spot in
the house. I put a pillow on the floor in his spot so hopefully he won’t get
chilled sleeping there. A lot of times he will stay upstairs but sleep on my
bed. That’s usually a good sign. It means he wants to be found. The tumor is
still there but it feels smaller than it did in December. It’s hard to tell for
sure though since the side of his face looks like one hairy scab. He tries to
scratch at it a lot. His foot usually doesn’t make contact with the side of his
face though. I think that is why he does it so often. My husband thinks he
suffering since he can’t scratch his itch. If I had more time I would research
some type of natural antihistamine to help with that discomfort. He still has
small amounts of drool and often mixed with blood that will collect at the side
of his mouth. There isn’t much smell though. If he has that infected smell I
make sure to give him a few drops of Colloidal Silver in his mouth. He still
sleeps on my pillow at night and most nights he ends up with the majority of the
pillow. Some mornings my pillow will have small drool and blood spots. This
morning there was nothing on my pillow.
I added Turmeric to his food for the supper and bedtime feedings. While I was
getting my notes out to work on his story I found an herb list that had Turmeric
on it. It states that Turmeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
and also has wound healing properties. I’ve been focusing on wound healing in my
recent research. I’m wondering if I can keep the infection in his face minimal
maybe his face might actually have a chance to heal. I’ve read a lot of articles
that say that it isn’t really the cancer that kills you but the toxicities the
cancer brings with it. I use to clean the side of his face every other night but
I don’t always do it that often now because I don’t want to make him worse. I
don’t know how large his sore or sores are that are under the scab so I don’t
want to risk removing parts of it and causing an open wound. When I do clean his
face I usually make a bowl of warm water with Colloidal Silver, hemp oil and
maybe a little CO Q10 or ALA added to the water. I dip the cloth in the mixture
and at least clean the lower part of his mouth. I will also put Colloidal Silver
drops on his paws so that when he cleans his mouth he will be getting the
antibiotic effect from it. If you are using Colloidal Silver you can not also
use pharmaceutical antibiotics. I can’t remember what happens if you do but I
know it isn’t good.
2-9-05 Wednesday
I must admit that trying to save Sherlock has been one of the most stressful
events in my life. Being responsible for the life or death of another living
soul is a very scary and lonely situation to be in. It’s hard to find all of the
information I need to base my treatment decisions on. Most people don’t want to
talk about vitamins and herbs. My only source of information is what I can read.
I can only read so fast and I only have so much time. I work full time, 35
minutes away. I’m gone for 10 hours a day, longer if the weather’s bad. I have a
family, I have a house to clean. Everything competes with my research time. I
swear everyday I’m finding more and more gray hairs on my head.
Today when I came home from work my husband told me Sherlock had been under the
buffet in the dining room and not moved from there all day. Normally this
wouldn’t alarm me, but the last few nights with him have been strange. To look
at him he looks perfectly fine. His eyes are bright, he’s still grooming himself
and he still eats very well. He doesn’t feel skinny. He looks healthy but I know
‘evil’ lurks within. I’m worried his time may be running out. I worry that maybe
this is the beginning of the end. Every now and then Sherlock will sound kind of
raspy and his purring sounds strange. This started on February 1st. Up until
Sunday night Sherlock has slept with me every night on my pillow. I will hold
him until he starts trying to put his paw in my mouth or my ears. It’s the same
routine every night. I love on him until he drives me crazy and I can’t take it
anymore, then I roll over and go to sleep. Then he will take over the majority
of my pillow and we go to sleep. He will often wake me up in the middle of the
night or early morning just to love on him. This has been his routine every
single night for the last six months, until now. Sunday night Sherlock was
sitting on the stairs when we went to bed. Normally he will come up and get on
the bed either before my husband and son have come up or after everyone is in
bed. I had just given him Colloidal Silver drops in his mouth a few minutes
before I went to bed so I figured he was still mad at me and would come to bed
later. When he wasn’t there when I woke up Monday morning, I was a little
scared. I looked for him upstairs and couldn’t find him. Then I checked
downstairs in the living room and there he was. He usually only hangs out in
there, if I am in there. He slept on a blanket on the loveseat. He looked up at
me like “nothings wrong, where’s my breakfast.” He spent part of the evening
Monday there too. Monday night our son was playing his synthesizer piano thing
in the living room and Sherlock didn’t care. He just stayed on the loveseat. He
had less pus Monday night. No noticeable blood on his mouth. I added some
Turmeric in his BT feeding. I didn’t give him any arginine or ornithine in his
BT feeding. I carried him upstairs for his bedtime feeding to make sure he ate.
He ate his supper then went and sat on the stairs. Once again he didn’t come to
bed with us. He woke me up at 5:00 am wanting me to pet him. Or knowing him he
was probably hungry and wanting fed. Tuesday it looked like he didn’t have as
much pus on the side of his mouth and no noticeable blood. He stayed upstairs
most of the night on the floor at the foot of the bed or on the bed. He had been
hanging out on the stairs in the early evening. I gave him beta carotene in his
AM & PM feedings. I also gave him Colloidal Silver drops in his mouth. He stayed
on the stairs Tuesday night too. He got in bed with me at 3:00 AM, he seemed
restless. About 3:30 he started throwing up on my bedroom carpet. Then he went
and sat on the stairs, midway down. Our stairs are wooden so I could hear him
thumping on the stairs trying to scratch the hairy scab. Then I heard him fall
down a couple steps. I went down stairs and picked him up and went and sat on
the loveseat with him. The tumor felt really large and he seemed agitated. He
sounded kind of congested. Like maybe the cancer is in his chest. Ten minutes
later he seemed perfectly fine so I took him back upstairs. I put him in bed
with me but he jumped out and went to his dry food bowl and started eating. This
morning he was on the steps when I got up. I brought him upstairs to eat his
breakfast. He ate well and was sitting on the stairs when I left. I didn’t know
what I was coming home to. Tim said Sherlock was still under the buffet. Since
he wasn’t waiting on the stairs for me to feed him like he is everyday at this
time, I was concerned. Between 5 and 5:30 pm everyday, even on the weekends,
Sherlock will sit on the stairs waiting to be fed. I was home an hour before I
got up the courage to look under the buffet. Sherlock just looked up at me in
his sweet way. I cooed at him to come out and he stretched real big and came
right up to me. I was expecting the worst and my cat looked fine.
I made his supper and carried him upstairs to eat. I added Vit E to his PM
feeding. He ate well. A little later I washed his mouth with Colloidal Silver
and Vit E added to the water. About 10 minutes later he threw up a small amount.
His mouth started bleeding a little bit. I wiped his mouth and held a little
pressure to it to make sure the bleeding stopped. He seemed to snub the BT
feeding.
2-10-05 Last night he didn’t come to bed until 5 AM. Luckily other than the
usual paw in the my mouth and ears, nothing eventful happened. I realized last
night that when Sherlock doesn’t come to sleep with me, I lay awake like a new
mother listening for her newborn’s cries. The house is real quiet at night. I
listen for Sherlock in case he needs me in the night. Even as annoying as he can
be, when he sleeps next to me, I sleep better because I know he is ok. My worst
fear is not to find Sherlock dead but to find him suffering and not know what to
do to help him or not be able to put him out of his misery. I don’t think there
are vets open at night here. If it were early enough I would call our vet.
Otherwise I ‘m not sure what I would do.
One minute I think he may have the ability to beat this cancer and 5 minutes
later, I can be convinced he’s going to die. He is the ‘Don’t count me out cat’.
Every time I have given up hope on him he has surprised me. A few days ago I
didn’t think he was looking real good. I told my husband I was concerned his
time might be up. No more than two hours later Sherlock came down the stairs and
into the living room to watch a movie with the family. He seemed perfectly fine.
There are definitely healing powers in the supplements. I just need to find out
which supplements he needs so he can heal better.
Trying to save Sherlock brings up a lot of ethical and spiritual questions for
me. Am I trying to save him in the name of science or the name of Sherlock?
Sometimes my husband, Tim and I refer to Sherlock as my ‘science project’. I am
very intrigued with the fact he is still alive and doing so well. He has lived
longer than many of the cats that I have read about. I’m afraid when he dies I
might quit researching these things since I will no longer have a purpose. I
feel guilty that that I never researched cancer treatments when my dad and
mother in law were still alive. I feel guilty because I can ‘save’ my cat but I
can’t ‘save’ my sister who has breast cancer. She has a false since of security
because she’s had the surgeries and the chemo and she believes that’s all she
has to do. She’s not dying yet, but if she doesn’t correct the reasons the
cancer was allowed to grow in her body in the first place, I am confident it
will be back.
When Sherlock got better when I first started giving him flax oil I almost had a
feeling of ‘letdown’ that flax was the meaning of life. At the same time I
wonder if learning about treating cancer through supplementation is what my
purpose in life is. So many questions, so few answers. I also feel like I have a
moral obligation to get the word out about the benefits of vitamin therapy.
There is no disputing the fact that the right vitamins and supplements have
healing powers. However you have to learn the rules of using vitamins, minerals
and all that happy stuff. I’m still learning. It will take time for me to learn
everything I need to know. By not following the rules you can cause more harm
than good. If you don’t supplement correctly you can cause deficiencies in other
areas. Sometimes I wonder with Rogue and her skin problems that it may be due to
an excess of the oils. I may be making one cat sick to save another. I haven’t
got that far in my research to know yet. She will be my next science project
when Sherlock is gone. Luckily she’s my son’s cat so I should get to keep my
pillow.
Sometimes I wash her belly with hemp oil and Colloidal Silver added to the
water. It seems to make her feel better so I do it if she looks raw or has stuff
stuck to her belly.
When you supplement with any minerals (calcium, magnesium, zinc, etc.) you
should always use chelated forms. Otherwise you can cause a deficiency of a
different mineral. Minerals are absorbed into the cell through a single ion
channel. That means only one ion can get into the cell at a time. It’s just like
waiting single file in line in the ladies room or at the grocery. You can’t go
in until it is your turn. If you have more of a certain mineral than the others
then the chances you will absorb more of it and less of the others increases.
The chelated form is wrapped in amino acids so it is absorbed in the intestinal
lining. It is supposed to allow for better mineral absorption without the risk
of causing deficiencies in other minerals. The body is suppose to tolerate it
better. That’s what I’ve read and it sounds like it’s logical, so I will follow
the rule.
Often times if you supplement with one vitamin you need an additional vitamin as
a helper for the body to absorb the first one. It’s all a little complex. I’ve
been reading The Doctors Complete Guide to Vitamins and Minerals, by Mary Dan
Eades. It’s been a real good source book but I wish it covered more of the
supplements I use. Vitamins and supplements are not like candy. They have to be
treated with respect and understanding. I would like to supplement Sherlock with
magnesium and zinc but I have to make sure the bad doesn’t outweigh the good.
I’m still researching the answer to that.
2-12-05 A few days ago I was putting beta carotene in the cat’s food and my son,
Austin wanted to know what the cat was getting and why. After I told him he said
he wanted to start taking it too. He basically told me if it was good enough for
the cat, he should be taking it too since he has been sick with a cold. He
appreciates the value of eating right and supplementing wisely and he’s only 9.
He still likes the junk food but we don’t have it around too often. I have
learned a lot while taking care of Sherlock.
I added turmeric to his PM feeding and he seemed to snub it. He ate his BT
feeding. We watched a movie last night and he came into the living room to hang
out with us. He slept downstairs and has been for the past few nights. Now that
I know he isn’t looking for a place to die, I don’t worry as much when he
doesn’t come to bed. I think we both sleep better this way. I don’t accidentally
bump him and he doesn’t spend the night trying to put his paw in my ears or
mouth.
2-13-05 Sherlock ate his AM feeding and seems to be doing well today. It almost
looks like he can open his mouth bigger. I have no idea how much longer he will
live but I do believe that the extra time he has had, has been relatively pain
free and of good quality.
2-14-05 He snubbed his PM & BT feedings. He’s drinking lots of water.
2-15-05 I looked on the internet about his extreme thirst and long urination. I
think he might be diabetic. Also we noticed a few days ago that his back was
riding kind of low. I’m trying to balance his fatty acids better. He messed in
the dining room today. I hope this doesn’t become a habit. Stopped adding flax
on BT feeding. Added chromium picolinate to help him control his sugar levels.
He snubbed it. He has a slight smell. He is still sleeping downstairs. He got in
bed with me at 5:00 AM.
2-16-05 Did not put flax in any of his meals and I have reduced the hemp oil to
1 tsp per meal. Added chromium picolinate to all three meals. Added chelated
calcium, magnesium and zinc to his BT feeding.
He threw up in the afternoon. This can be a sign of diabetes too. He messed in
the dining room again today. He’s starting to smell so I put colloidal silver
drops in his mouth tonight. He doesn’t have much puss and it only has a little
reddish tint to it. Overall he looks good.
2-17-05 I added chelated calcium, magnesium and zinc to his PM & BT feedings.
Added flax oil to his BT feeding. He’s dropping hard little turds. I think he
might be a little constipated. He’s eating better today. He smells kind of bad
so I put colloidal silver drops in his mouth tonight. The tumor is looking kind
of crusty like it’s growing. I washed the bottom of his mouth with colloidal
silver, hemp oil, Vit E, folic acid and ALA added to the water.
2-18-05 I’ve added flax back into his meals. I’m not giving him very much. Still
adding the chromium picolinate to all three meals. I added soy lecithin and
chelated calcium, magnesium and zinc to his BT feeding. I also added an
additional fish oil capsule to his BT feeding. He’s eating normally again. He is
still dropping tiny turds. He smells bad so I gave him Colloidal silver drops in
his mouth and into the opening of the big hairy scab.
2-19-05 I squirted colloidal silver into his mouth and the opening of the hairy
scab today. He’s still dropping tiny dried up little poops. I added soy lecithin
to his AM & PM feedings. I added a very small pinch of royal jelly and a small
amount of ground flax seeds to his PM feeding. He seemed to really like it. I
added Quercitin with Bromelain to his BT feeding. Added an extra fish oil to all
three feedings.
2-20-05 I think today has been the most traumatic for me in terms of Sherlock’s
treatment. It’s been a traumatic, yet joyous day. The last few days Sherlock has
smelled really infected. I had been giving him daily drops of colloidal silver
in his mouth. I had also been squirting it into the opening of the hairy scab.
Today when I was cleaning his mouth I accidentally loosened the hairy scab. I
hadn’t planned on removing it, I was afraid of what I might find. Since I
loosened it, I had no choice. Sherlock kept kicking at it with a vengeance. I
had to remove it the rest of the way.
I think had I not removed it Sherlock would have gone mad. I gave him a couple
drops of the feline stress formula I had purchased from Wholistic Animal in
Australia to calm him so I could remove the scab the rest of the way. My husband
held him down while I carefully cut the remaining hairs holding the scab to his
face. Before I could finish cutting all the hair away, he jerked away from me
and the scab came off. There was very little if any blood. A fear I have is that
he will start bleeding and I won’t be able to stop it. I was relieved that it
looked as good as it did. SCC can be a very erosive type of cancer, I wasn’t
sure what to expect. The scab made his face look worse than I think it actually
is. It looks like he probably has multiple tumors but at least now they are
exposed and that should make defeating them easier. At least it will make
treating them easier. Finally I can see my adversary. Yesterday I purchased some
royal jelly and mixed a small amount into the contents of a 1200 mg soy lecithin
capsule. Now I am just trying to get up the nerve to put it on the tumor. I
tested the mixture on my hands yesterday and today I put it on a couple spots on
my face. There’s a risk of allergic response to the royal jelly so I am
reluctant to put it on Sherlock. I figure since I am such a wimp when it comes
to medicines & things that if it doesn’t harm me it shouldn’t harm Sherlock. My
husband thinks my thinking is warped when I try things before I give them to
Sherlock. It’s pretty ironic when you think about it. Doing people testing to
make sure a substance is safe for the cat. With the exception of specifically
cat meds, I usually try every supplement before I give it to Sherlock. I need to
know how the supplement reacts in the body so I can be alert to any possible
complications. If a supplement were to make me ill I definitely wouldn’t give it
to Sherlock. It’s not necessarily the best system, but it’s the best I’ve got.
Sherlock and I take a lot of the same supplements so it makes testing new ones
easier. I’ve actually came across some good vitamins for my personal use this
way. So we both benefit from me testing them first.
I didn’t try the lecithin & royal jelly mix I made but I did mix up an oil for
his face. I used one EPO, 1drop Vit E, 1 drop lecithin and 4 drops of colloidal
silver. I put a small amount on his tumor after I tested it on me and my
husband. I added an extra fish oil to all three feedings.
2-21-05 Added additional 500mg w/Vit E EPO to BT feeding. Added an extra fish
oil to AM & PM feedings. Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth today. Seems to
be doing fine with the Quercitin with Bromelain and the lecithin. Still dropping
tiny little turds. Cut fish oil back to just one a meal. Too much can interfere
with his sugar levels.
2-22-05 Still giving him the extra EPO in all three meals. Put colloidal silver
drops in his mouth. He looks and acts good. More hair came off around the scab
today. His poop is a little bigger and better hydrated today.
He has a small amount of drool. Put small amount of the EPO face mix on his face
tonight. He slept on the couch last night. Rogue slept on the loveseat.
2-23-05 Face looks flatter today. Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. He
has some blood on his mouth today. Washed his face with Vit E and colloidal
silver added to the water. He’s been laying around on a towel in the dining room
today. He slept on the couch last night. Rogue slept on the loveseat. He used to
avoid her, now he seems to be paying more attention to her.
2-24-05 Added Turmeric to his AM feeding. Added royal jelly to his BT feeding.
He has some slight bleeding today. He got blood on the carpet. Put colloidal
silver drops in his mouth. In the morning he peed on the pad downstairs. In the
evening he peed on the floor.
2-25-05 His new scab came off today. It didn’t seem to bother him much once he
got it off. Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth.
2-26-05 Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth.
2-27-05 I added lycopene to his AM & Pm feedings. Put colloidal silver drops in
his mouth. He got in bed with me in the morning. He must have been wanting his
breakfast.
2-28-05 Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. He didn’t get in bed with me
until about 5:30 AM.
3-1-05 Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. The newest scab is trying to
come off. It has a gel like bloody substance under it. Sherlock flicked blood
everywhere when he kicked at it. I gave him some stress drops and then cut the
part of the scab that was hanging off his face. His poop is bigger and better
hydrated today. He got in bed this morning about 5:00 AM. He seems to be
stalking Rogue.
3-2-05 Put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. Washed his face with Vit E and
colloidal silver added to the water. He pooped on the pad in the dining room.
Later he peed in Austin’s room. He got in bed this morning about 5:30 AM.
3-3-05 He smells pretty bad today. So I put colloidal silver drops in his mouth
twice and washed his face with Vit E and colloidal silver added to the water. He
pooped on the pad in the dining room. It’s looking bigger and better hydrated.
He got in bed this morning about 5:30 AM.
3-4-05 He’s still smelling kind of bad so I put colloidal silver drops in his
mouth twice again today. I added the chelated calcium, magnesium and zinc to his
PM feeding.
3-5-05 His scab came off this morning. He smells better now. I put colloidal
silver drops in his mouth only once today. He’s not acting like he’s feeling
very good today. He’s stayed in the dining room on the pads most of the day and
night. He has two holes in his tumor that seem to be draining a lot.
3-6-05 He disappeared in the house from about noon until 7:30 PM. He was hiding
somewhere. He’s looking pretty good today so I wasn’t worried. I added Niacin to
his PM and BT feedings. I washed his face with Vit E and colloidal silver added
to the water. His face bled a little and Sherlock acted like he was a little mad
at me for washing his face. He got in bed sometime in the early AM.
3-8-05 Sherlock got in bed about 4AM. In the morning it seemed like he was
trying to poop but couldn’t. He seems to be constipated and not wanting to eat.
I stopped adding the daily chelated calcium, magnesium and zinc. I added 1 tsp
of safflower oil and extra Vit C to his PM and BT feedings to hopefully help him
poop a little easier. He did finally poop and it was fairly large logs. His scab
came off tonight.
3-9-05 Sherlock got in bed about 4AM. I added 1 tsp of safflower oil and extra
Vit C to all meals. He looks good and seems to be eating again. He pooped and
peed in Austin’s room tonight. Austin is getting very unhappy with Sherlock. His
bathroom habits are getting on everyone’s nerves.
3-10-05 I added 1 tsp of safflower oil and extra Vit C to his AM and PM
feedings. He got in bed with me early this morning. I noticed this evening that
his original tumor looks smaller but it looks like he has a new one growing
beside it near his ear. I stopped the safflower oil for his BT feeding. Rogue’s
belly is flaring up now too so maybe the safflower oil caused this new growth. I
don’t know… I can’t take any chances since the safflower oil was the only thing
I had changed. I added Vit A to his BT feeding.
3-11-05 I added Vit A to all three feedings. I added Vit D and an extra fish oil
capsule to his PM feeding. I washed his face with Vit E, hemp oil and colloidal
silver added to the water. I put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. He got in
bed about 1AM.
3-12-05 He got in bed with me in the early AM hours. He stayed on the stairs
most of the day. I added Vit D to his AM & PM feedings. I added Vit A to all
three feedings. I baked marrow bones for the puppies so I scraped out some of
the marrow for Sherlock. It’s good for him and he really likes it. His scab came
off today. He had bleeding off on all through the day. I washed his face with
Vit E, hemp oil and colloidal silver added to the water. I put colloidal silver
drops in his mouth.
3-13-05 Sherlock jumped on the bed in the middle of the night but didn’t stay
long. He stayed on the stairs most of the day. He’s kind of taken them over.
He’s not acting like he wants to eat the canned food today but he’s eating the
Innova dry. At least he’s eating. I added A&D vitamins to all three feedings.
Overall he looks good and is acting like he feels good.
3-14-05 Sherlock’s face looks good today but there is a slight smell. He’s not
wanting to eat so I gave him cat milk with a little flax and hemp oil added. I
put colloidal silver drops in his mouth and on the tumor side of his face.
3-15-05 He’s eating some but not much today. He smells infected. Gave him cat
milk with flax oil, hemp oil, Vit B & Vit E added to the milk. I put colloidal
silver drops in his mouth and on the tumor side of his face.
3-16-05 I’m still giving him the cat milk. Today I added flax oil, hemp oil, Vit
E, colloidal silver, alpha-lipoic acid and quercetin to the milk. He’s drinking
it. I washed his face with hemp oil, Vit E, CoQ10 and colloidal silver added to
the water. I put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. I stopped giving him the
hemp protein today.
3-17-05 He’s still not eating much but he is drinking the milk with the above
supplements added. Washed his face with hemp oil, Vit E, CoQ10 and colloidal
silver added to the water. I put colloidal silver drops in his mouth. The new
scab came off today.
3-18-05 Still not eating very much but will drink the cat milk. He had two
bleeding episodes today. I put Vit E with Niacin on a small area of the tumor
today. He ate the remainder of the mixture. I put colloidal silver drops in his
mouth.
3-22-05 Washed his face with hemp oil, Vit E and colloidal silver added to the
water. I put colloidal silver drops in his mouth and on the tumor.
3-23-05 I gave him colloidal silver drops twice today. I put Vit E with
colloidal silver mixed into it on his tumor. Sherlock weighs 5 ½ pounds. He’s
always been skinny so this is no real shock. He’s always been more hair than
meat.
3-24-05 05 I gave him colloidal silver drops twice today. Washed his face with
hemp oil, Vit E and colloidal silver added to the water I put Vit E with
colloidal silver mixed into it on his tumor. He had a little bit of bleeding
today. He’s staying on the pads in the dining room. He’s not wanting to eat or
drink anything that has his vitamins in it. This isn’t a good sign. I’m pretty
sure it’s the oils and the vitamins that have kept him alive this long. Maybe
he’s giving up and he’s ready to let go. How much should I intervene?
3-25-05 He’s staying on the pads in the dining room again today. I gave him 1cc
of his oil mixture since he won’t eat the food with it added. I put colloidal
silver drops in his mouth today.
3-26-05 He’s staying on the pads in the dining room again today. I started
giving him organic chicken broth today. I trimmed the fur on his paws since he
hasn’t been professionally groomed since he was diagnosed with SCC. I made the
puppies marrow bones today and gave Sherlock some of the marrow out of the
middle of the bones. I put his one 1cc of the oil mixture on a yogurt lid and he
drank it. He’s eating but it seems like food is getting stuck in the tumor side
of his mouth. I washed his face and tried to swish out his mouth with an
oversized eye dropper. I put Vit E with colloidal silver and niacin mixed in on
his tumor. I gave him some of the Aussie stress balance formula today.
3-27-05 I washed his face in the morning. I put Vit E with colloidal silver and
niacin mixed in on his tumor in the AM and PM. He seems more alert and perky
today. He was on the stairs most of the evening. I gave him chicken broth with
his AM & PM feedings.
3-28-05 He’s hanging out on the stairs and in the kitchen doorway today.
Hopefully this means he’s feeling better. I washed his face with Vit E,
colloidal silver and hemp oil added to the water and then put Vit E with
colloidal silver and niacin mixed in on his tumor. Gave him kitty milk and
chicken broth today. Gave him 1cc of the oil mixture.
3-29-05 He’s eating good today but he seems weak and wobbly. I squirted 1cc of
the oil mixture in his mouth. Gave him colloidal silver drops in the AM and PM.
I put Vit E with colloidal silver and niacin mixed in on his tumor.
3-30-05 Gave him colloidal silver drops in the AM and PM. He seems to have quite
a tartar build up on his teeth in the tumor area. I washed his face today.
3-31-05 I gave him 1cc of the oil mixture in the AM and PM. Gave him colloidal
silver drops in the morning and I put Vit E with colloidal silver and niacin
mixed in on his tumor. He seemed to have lots of drainage in the morning. He
laid around most of the day and had a little bit of bleeding in the afternoon.
He went upstairs to drink water even though he has water downstairs.
4-1-05 Sherlock’s not looking good today. He apparently had a pretty heavy
bleeding spell while I was at work. He had dried blood on his face above his eye
and on his forehead. I washed the blood off his face. He’s still eating so at
least that is in his favor. He went upstairs again today to drink the water. I
washed his tumor area with hemp oil, Vit E, colloidal silver, alpha-lipoic acid
and CoQ10 added to the water. I gave him colloidal silver drops and 1cc of the
oil mixture.
4-2-05 Sherlock is looking better today. He got up for the AM feeding. He drank
his kitty milk with the Vit E, hemp and flax oils and colloidal silver added. I
gave him 1cc of the oil mixture in the AM & PM. I combed his breast hair but
accidentally made him bleed a little. Washed his face with hemp oil, Vit E,
colloidal silver, alpha-lipoic acid and CoQ10 added to the water. I made him
liver today. He seemed to like it. He came in the kitchen in the early evening
and then sat in the doorway. Tonight he jumped on the couch when we were in the
living room.
4-3-05 Sherlock looked good in the morning but he wasn’t looking too good in the
evening. He acts like he wants to eat but can’t. I gave him colloidal silver
drops in the afternoon and evening. Gave him 1cc of the oil mixture. Added
colloidal silver and folic acid to his afternoon kitty milk and colloidal
silver, folic acid, niacin, alpha-lipoic acid and CoQ10 to his PM milk. Washed
his face with hemp oil, Vit E, colloidal silver, alpha-lipoic acid and CoQ10
added to the water. I put Vit E with colloidal silver and niacin mixed in on his
tumor.
4-4-05 Today is 8 months from when I found Sherlock’s tumor, I think we are
almost out of time now. He’s weak and wobbly and not looking good. He feels a
little cold and his mouth looks white. My husband said he’s been crying out
today. It seems like he wants to eat but he can’t get the food in his mouth. I
gave him colloidal silver drops and 1cc of the oil mixture in the AM and PM. I
mixed up some slippery elm powder and hemp protein and mixed it with a little
water and gave him a couple droppers of the mixture. He came upstairs tonight to
drink the water.
4-5-05 Sherlock woke me up this morning about 5:20AM because he fell down the
stairs. He was very weak. I gave him a dose of antibiotics. Today is the day I
liberate sweet Sherlock’s soul. I would have really liked to have stayed home
with him today but it’s month end for me at work and since I’m the manager I had
to go in to close AR so we could open the new month.
So my body went to work but my heart stayed home. I came home early from work
today to spend time with Sherlock before we went to the vet. When I got home he
was outside with my husband and had been for about an hour. We stayed outside
for another hour. I sat next to him and petted him and so wished I had received
that miracle that would have spared him. He cried a few times and assured me I
was making the right decision. He so enjoyed being outside. Other than a couple
times when it's been almost warm out, he hadn't been outside since I noticed his
lump on August 4th. He always loved to lay outside in the sun. He usually stayed
on our property and didn't wonder far from home. Of course he always had to come
inside before dark. My husband brought the carrier outside on the patio. I put a
couple thick towels in his carrier. A few minutes later Sherlock walked into the
carrier and my husband carried it to my car. I drove Sherlock to the vet and he
cried a few times. Luckily when we got there it wasn't real busy so we were
immediately put in a room. I let him out of the carrier onto the table. Again he
cried and reassured me I was doing the right thing. I held him until the vet
came in. The vet looked at his face and affirmed that it was indeed time to let
Sherlock go. He had me carry him to a back room. He
shaved a small spot on his right leg. His assistant held the leg
down and I held the rest of him onto the table. He gave him the
injection and Sherlock was gone almost instantly. Finally his
suffering was over. The assistant put Sherlock back into his
carrier and I paid my bill and drove him home through my tears. I
haven't cried in years, but I did today.
When I got home my husband was in the garage and I stopped the car
so he could get Sherlock and the carrier out of the car. I pulled
my car around the front of the house. Our son Austin was in the
front room and I asked him if he wanted to come to Sherlock's
funeral. He put his shoes on and came outside to the back yard. I
gently took Sherlock from the carrier and laid him on a towel. I
tried to close his eyes. I then wrapped him in a towel and placed
him in his final resting place. I read Psalm 23 and midway through
Austin started crying. I put my arm around him as I finished
reading the verse. Then my husband told us we should go inside and
not watch the burial. I think he needed his time with Sherlock
too. I comforted Austin and then I started the process of cleaning
the hospice items out of the dining room. I know I did the right
thing, but I am still sad. Luckily we still have Rogue, my son's
cat and two adorable fox terrier puppies. So at least I still have
other babies I can love and mother. I feel so sorry for the people
who have no fur babies at home to comfort them in their time of
loss. People don't always understand, but fur babies always do.
In Hindsight
After Sherlock passed I read an article about potassium deficiency in older cats
and the problems and decline it causes. Sherlock was drinking a lot more water
and he was peeing more than usual. His litter box habits had also changed. All
of these can be symptoms of a potassium deficiency.
I just thought he was possibly diabetic. I gave Sherlock a lot of supplements
but I was always afraid of potassium. Too much can be deadly… just as too little
can be. My vet wasn’t very knowledgeable about supplements so I had no one to
turn to for guidance. I chose to error on the side of caution. My biggest fear
was that I would accidentally kill him. Had I known more about potassium I would
have had him checked for a deficiency.
Note: It is not recommended to give cats potassium supplements without the
guidance and supervision of your vet.
Following is the link for feline potassium information.

I should have also tried to get my vet to give him antibiotics to fight the
infection in the tumor. I think I was afraid to take Sherlock back to the vet
for additional assistance because I was afraid he would only see his tumor and
not that whole cat and would recommend putting him to sleep. The Vet was very
negative in December when Sherlock just had a lump. I think he would have been
even more negative once the tumor opened up. Although Sherlock never acted like
he was in pain, I probably should have tried to get him pain meds as well.
